Zouk Mikael old Souk is known for its beautiful vintage style and played once an important role in the Lebanese economy. A pedestrian street and small paved streets known as the Upper and Lower Souk were completely renovated in 1988 and 1995 preserving their traditional architectural aspect. Today the place combines many workshops, kiosks, shops, and stands. Old Lebanese stone shops open their beautiful wooden portals and present works of all kinds: sculptures, paintings, artisan works, leather goods…
History
Following the urban renaissance launched by Prince Fakhreddin, which included building bridges, “khans” and castles, the old souk was constructed, to later reach its peak following the expansion of berry growing and silk industry, turning it at the time into the “silk stocks market”.
