Years ago, the town of Rayak was a hub for traders and travelers. It was home to the Middle East’s first rail network which was built in 1891 connecting Damascus to Beirut until it closed in 1976 and became abandoned till now. It is an interesting place for curious travelers and history enthusiasts
The station complex had nine buildings, including a hotel, a telecommunications center, and a ticket office. Other buildings on site included a military center, a postal station, the employee lounge, and a security building. However, you’ll need permission to get inside and take pictures.
