In one of the oldest villages in Lebanon, Smar Jbeil, this old castle is found on a strategic hill. A beautiful sea view can be seen all the way from Tripoli to Jounieh! Most historians recognize that the castle was built by the Phoenicians and then it was inhabited by the King of Babylon ‘Bakhtasar’ who craved a draining of him and the queen on its northern wall which can be seen today. The castle has many wells built in the rocks, and several tunnels connecting the castle to the nearby valleys.
